Fuel consumption?

Hi everyone!

Let me start by saying that my 2.4 Coupé is running fantastic! Thanks to great support from Adrien, I have the advance curve just right, the points are spot on, and the plugs never foul up. The carburettors were totally cleaned and the engine idles smoothly and goes like hell. So, that leaves me with a fuel consumption for mixed highway/city at 28 L/100 Km, or 8.4 mpg and I was wondering if this is also what others find. Poll, anyone?

I have a much lesser fuel consumption of 11-15 l / 100 kms. 28 seems to be too much.

Consumption of my Fiat Dinno Coupé 2400: All time low 9.8 liters / 100km. All time high 15.5 liters / 100km. On everage 11-13 liters / 100km.

28 liters / 100km sounds like a leakage in the fuel tank

Stelvio - 30l / 100km

MM - 25l / 110km

German Highways - 20l / 100km

Swiss Hihgways - 9,2l / 100km

City avarage: never tried!

Final remark: who is driving a Dino is not worried about fuel consumption but watch for Performance

Thanks everyone, I also feel above 25 seems a bit high. The performance is definitively worth it, so I'm more than happy enough unless it means there is problems somewhere...

I just redid the gas tank, and sealed it! jokes aside, no smell of gas anywhere in the garage. What is Stelvio and MM?

Hi Dario, just a thought, I once had a 2400 coupe which had a running fault, after much fafing around it turned out to be the fuel pressure regulator, I then by passed it which cured the running problem but it did use a lot more fuel until I fitted a new one, maybe it's not working at all on yours?

That seems to be a bit high, did you change the main jets while working on the carbs? Have a good workshop with an CO meter retune the carbs to around 3.5% CO, that might fix the issue.

If I'm working on it doing tuning, and lots of short test drives, I get about 28l/100km, maybe even as bad as 33l/100km. But just driving about mixing hiway and city returns ~15 to 17 l/100km (or 14 - 16 mpg).

Hi Everyone, and thanks for your feedback!

I re-did some takes on a full tank of mixed driving, and it's down to 21 L/100km, so somewhat more reasonable. I guess the last measurements had too many short runs and tuning. Still, it does seem a bit high and I wonder if like Dino 1239 said it's the pressure regulator: my car doesn't have one. In fact, it didn't come with a fuel filter nor pressure regulator (like some of the early 2400s, a bit weird). Of course, if the float valves work properly, it shouldn't be a problem. I didn't replace the jets when I rebuilt the carbs and they were the ones listed as stock on the Weber catalogue. When I took the car to pass inspection, they measured the CO/CO2 and it was spot on.

I'm wondering if there is something dragging or creating excess friction, like the brakes. The wheels do not feel warm after driving, but maybe elsewhere? With the car on jacks, it's definitively hard to rotate the rear wheels with the car in neutral.
