Engine removal from below

Post by mostromilano »

Folks

A very nice thread (17 year Dino restoration) shows engine removal from the bottom. I have access to a very nice 2-post lift (but not a cherry picker style hoist) and am curious if anyone else has removed their engine/trans from below by lifting the body off. It looks like the lower control arms and mounts come with it as an assembly (engine, trans, subframe w/ lower arms and ball joints).

Feedback welcome, and if none - guess I'll have a go at it myself when the time comes.

I have Pulled my Engine out and in From below. Works very good with my pit and a crane on the ceiling. Lower Arms and all steering Arms have to be removed as well as the exhaust System and the Part that sits unter the Engine where the lower Controller Arms are connected to (dont know the englisch Name for it) and the stabiliser bar. Works Pretty well.

Having done it recently the easiest way is to remove the engine from above. The most difficult part is removing the top two bolts on the bell housing but suitable flexible socket extensions will do the job. Solo, it took me two hours. It should be a simple matter to rent an engine lifter?

Well, I decided to do it from the top. It's simple so far - but I'm tight on space for exhaust header extraction. Can the motor/trans assembly be pulled with the headers in place?

No, headers have to come off. I made the same error but fortunately removal isn't that difficult provided they're not rusted into the collector
