Hub caps

I can't believe I am asking this but I have just been sent some brand new original hub caps for my Dino Coupe 2000. Neither I nor the mechanic working on the car can see how they can go on - its seems that the stainless steel has to flex a few mm to go over the lugs on the Cromadora wheel and it does not want to flex that much. Is this a known problem? Is there a technique such as heating them?

Hi, haven´t heard about this problem before. I have mounted different hubcaps in the past, flat ones and round ones, on my wheels and never had problems.
So there is nothing like 2000er hubcaps and 2400er hubcaps and also no difference between the cromodoras of 2000 and 2400 (except the painting).

Can you post some pics of the hubcaps and the wheels?

If they are anything like our frogeye hubcaps quite a lot of force is required to fit - more of a shock than hammering.

Hi, could it be as simple as manufacturing tolerances a bit too tight and thick layers of paint on the wheels? I completely understand your reluctance to apply a lot of force though! Maybe measuring precisely to see what the difference between wheel and hubcap is will help you decide

I got them on! Two hours to do it. I think it was manufacturing tolerances. I filed down the lugs on the wheels and heated the hub caps in the oven. I then used a block of wood and a hammer and they went on when the hit was from exactly the right angle. Let's hope I don't need to remove them too often!

Hi Rob. I have exactly the same problem. The same caps as you have on the picture. How much did you grind of the 3 brackets..?

It was just trial and error but I filed off quite a lot. I have to say that I have been disappointed with these. The Fiat badges have delaminates in just a few weeks.

Be careful. Grinding the wheels means you can never mount original hubcaps when you find some.
