Difficult to Find Parts???

Post by bulletpruf »

Fellas -

Am about to move to Italy and want a classic Fiat or Alfa Romeo. I've narrowed it down to the Fiat Dino or an Alfa Romeo GTV 1750. The Alfa's have pretty good aftermarket support, but what about the Fiat Dino's? Would like to have something that I can fix easily and fairly quickly if it breaks.

I see that trim and interior pieces are problematic. Are there any pieces that are often missing or damaged that are difficult to find?

Some parts that lots of folks need, but not reproduced?

Are engine parts readily available? Alternators, water pumps, internal engine parts?

What about suspension and brake parts? Rotors, pads, calipers?

Transmission and drivetrain parts? Gears, seals, races, bearings?

Are any body panels reproduced? Glass?

Thanks!

Scott,

When it comes to parts availability, the Alfa GTV's are streets ahead. To get an idea of what you can get for Dinos have a look at:

http://www.superformance.co.uk/fiat/index.html
http://www.dinoparts.eu/DE/EN/fiat-coup ... 2400/home/

I own a 2.4 Coupe and an Alfa 2000 GTV. They are both fantastic cars but very different to drive. If your choice is heavily influenced by ease of maintenance and spares availability, then the Alfa is a no-brainer.......whichever you choose you will not be disappointed, whatever you go for listen to your heart, not your head!!

Scott,

I have owned 2400 Coupes and 2 liter Spider.
Both alfa anf Fiat are fantastic cars.
Parts of Alfa are cheaper, better available and garage bills are cheaper too,
If simthing might happen.

I have a nice alfa 1750 GTV for sale.
Color Faggio ( burgundy red)
Interesting car with true ( documented) bankrobbery history!
Located un the Netherlands
Kind regards

Not too worried about garage bills; I do all my own work. Parts availability is a major concern, however.

Sending you a pm on the 1750 GTV...

Thanks!

Hi everybody

It's funny to see that we have the same cars I also owns an Alfa GTV 1750 mk1 and a Fiat Dino coupe 2400
They are bodied by Bertone and have a sophisticated engine but these two cars are really different to drive
The first one for the back roads and turns and the second for the main lines
One is a small nervous coupe and the other is a upper class touring car

Alfa parts are much more easier to find
Prices are also lower

I agree that it's a bit of an apples to oranges comparison, as we say. The cars are really not that similar. I also fully realize that the GTV makes much more sense than the Dino, but I'm still seriously considering the Dino.

I don't think the prices are that far off. A very nice Alfa will run you $20,000. A very nice Dino coupe can be had for $25,000 or $30,000.

Thanks,

Scott

Dont' expect to find a nice Dino Coupe for less than 30K$, since they are not abundant these days. Most of them were canibalised in favour of 206/246, and Stratos Replicas..
