Hello,

Here my first question here: Which electronic ignition system can I best use to convert my current points system?

I have a 3 lobes distributor with double points. (I just want a simple, not too expensive and reliable system which I convert myself ) (and how to keep the rev-meter working?)


Options in my opinion are:
1. Luminition pickup Optronic OS50 (95euro) + chopper F425(a bit too big?) or F009(a bit too small?) (how to fit that? any experience?)
in combination with Bosch ignition controller 0227100137;(70euro, can I buy a used one for this?) http://www.dinoplex.org/PDF/Wiring_Ferr ... Pickup.pdf

2. The Ignitor II ( 9MR-161A)(115euro) for S125A/BX 3 lobes shafts. Together with Flamethrower 2 coil.
About this second option I didn't find any practical info yet.


Please your advice what is best or other options I should consider.
Experience with converting (+photos) are really appreciated as well.

The best "standard" chopper to fit the three lobe S125BX is in the FK124 package, you only need a bit of window sealer (black silicone) to install it in the final position, no milling etc. is required. Lumenition started to sell a S125BX specific conversion kit which you can directly order from Lumenition/Autocar via the order code SM42, the price is £18.00. With this kit you don't need to fabricate the S125BX mounting plate for the Optronic pickup as it is part of the package.

I would recommend acquiring a new 0 227 100 137 Module, they are not that expensive given what you get for the money and with a used one you don't know the history, e.g. if it has been abused before. You also need the corresponding Bosch 0 221 119 334 coil for this setup.

The Lumeniton Optronics igniton module is also fine, it has a bit less output and is more expensive that the Bosch setup. A full Lumenition setup requires a tach adapter for installation with the later Veglia electronic tacho you have in your '71 coupe.

Based on the Pertronix data sheet this should work nicely but i haven't installed one yet. I had some problems with the magnetic sleeves from Ignitor I packages having a variance of 2-4º between the cylinders so stopped using Ignitor products for the time being. They might have fixed that in the meantime though.

Please your advice what is best or other options I should consider.

The easiest to install option is a MSD 6A/Blaster II setup as these are a direct replacement of the factory installed Dinoplex, but the setup won't look original if that is of importance. If you are just looking for a new ignition setup and don't want to get too much into details/conversion work, this is a convenient solution.

My favorite retrofit (i am a bit biased here ) is the Lumenition/Bosch ignition setup, which now runs in 50+ Dinos since about five years now without any issues.
See images below for a S125BX Lumenition conversion, a Dinoplex C AEC101 and a Dinoplex AEC103 converted to Bosch components. The Bosch setup works best with NGK BPR7EIX spark plugs. The distributor conversion is a bit fiddly if you haven't done one before, but Bob Stewart in Germany offers S125 Lumenition conversions including the material/pickup for €200 if you mention my name.

Your '71 coupe should have come with a factory supplied Dinoplex, so your tacho is the later electronic type which is compatible with the MSD 6A and the Bosch setup (but would need a tach adapter for the Lumenition Optronics ignition module).

So I found that I should paint the coil RAL 9005 satin black finish.
What about stickers? Can I order them somewhere? I couldn't find them at superformance site.

Furthermore; there are reproduction dinoplex cases made? (and used by superformance), where to get them? (and the big or small one?) (chassis nr 4678)

Concering the spark plugs; they are quite expensive, but really worth it? Because you wrote this on ferarrichat.com:

The NGK BPR7EIX plugs are recommended with points and weak transistor ignitions, as the small electrodes help in initiating a spark discharge with a lower spark voltage.

Where I won't have these problems any more with my strong? bosch/lumenition system so than the regular sparks should be fine as well? (or do I get just a bit more performance?)

Does anybody have some photos when it is installed in a Dino coupe? (in a original way, or as close as)

Mail me your postal address and i'll send you the correct Marelli coil sticker for a 2.4 Coupe with a factory AEC103. Photo of a repainted Bosch (left) and original Marelli coil (right) attached.

I recommend the NGK EIX/EVX spark plugs for all transistor ignitions, as the output voltage (required for the spark to happen) is lower than the one from CDI ignitions such as the Dinoplex (transistor ignitions have around 20-25KV, the Dinoplex around 40-45KV).

The Bosch/Lumenition setup is one of the strongest ignitions on the market regarding the coil current, which results in a very long spark duration which helps ensuring a full combustion per cycle.

In the Netherlands there is a company called www.limpex-sport.nl who can supply the kit as well, however for 70 euros, a lot more. (a chopper and base plate)

So at which company did you get it for 18 pound?
