Spider Hood - Wood which locks hood to frame

Hi All,
I remember that a while ago there was a lengthy discussion regarding which wood to use on the curved bar which locks the hood material into the metal frame on the rear edge of the hood where it meets the body behind the rear seats. I'm pretty sure that one of our number who was very experienced with timber advised exactly which type of wood to use and I am hoping someone can remind me what this is? I've searched all of the Forum to find this thread but without luck.
Many thanks,
Bob.
