Replacing the Heater Core

Post by MaseratiSD »

Has anyone done a Heater Core replacement?

Do I have to take the entire dashboard out of the car?

It seems to be impossible to get at from any angle I look, just wondering if there was some magic to it?

Hi, I took it out without taking out the entire dash. I removed the shift lever, then the entire center console (with the facia). Then, you have access to the heater box, which you can remove, and access the heater core. The real PITA were the pipes going to the firewall, but it's doable. Be prepared to spend some time upside down...

Good luck,
Guzzi

Ditto. Helps also to remove the seats, then you can sprawl.

I have done exaktly this 3 Weeks ago. Its doable but due to upside down working difficult. Center console must be out. You can loosen and remove the pipes. Be prepared that some water comes out and be careful not to break the Clips holding lower and upper Part together. To separate them Makes it easier to reach the nuts at the pipes. Its a frickly Job but it Works - good luck!

Thanks everyone.... I'm thinking I may just take the glass out and the dash out anyway. I have some wiring problems I need to look into.

Anyone know where I can purchase a new heater core?

I am in the middle of a heater core cleaning.
My heating box was in pretty dirty and the core is ok with no leak.
However the valve inner rubber is completely gone.

I ordered a new valve from Superformance, but the wholes do not line up with the studs.
We made some modification to the new valve to make it fit to our old core... To no avail.
Now going to plan B will see if I should order a new Kit from

But now I wonder if the pipes will fit correctly through our fire all...
Anyway this is the sort of job I never want to do again, especially with new carpets.
