Cooling fan relay problem FIAT 2000 Dino

Post by bhiggins2 »

I had an overheating problem with my FIAT 2000 Dino.
The cooling fan was not coming on.
The thermostat switch in the radiator is new and working.
The cooling fan works if it is hard wired.
The relay must be malfunctioning.
Is there a replacement relay available on the market?
Thanks,
Ben.

Ben, before you replace the original relay, perhaps you do some checks:

Sometines things are simple, have you checked if the fuse for the fan has not blown?

Is the relay correctly connected? Does the blue / black cable to pin 86 at the bottom of the relay have power when the ignition is switched on?

When the relay points have closed, does the operating circuit have power?

Next step, open the cover and check if it really does not work. Check if it closes / opens, when you put power on / off on the pins numbered with 86 and 85 (30 through 87 supplies the fan). Then check, if there is oxidation on the points.

Normally such relays do not bust. Should your relay really be broken, you can replace by any standard relaly with correct technical data.

If you want to stay with a correct original FIAM relay, I could send you one out of my stock.

Thanks Georg for the detailed instructions for testing the fan relay.
All the fuses in the fuse box are good.
I will do the other tests and let you know what I find.
Cheers,
Ben.
