Lower compression cylinder

Hi

I have had some issues with one piston from my Dino 2400 Coupe’s engine. Some external piece went inside / probably when vendor changed the carburators - we managed to remove it and the engine now works well. But the cylinder is a bit damaged with compression higher than before but not top.

The advice from my mechanic is to use the Dino and enjoy it until we stumble some new issues and then consider opening engine and change what need to be changed.

What’s the aficionado’s views on that approach?

Opening the engine usually involves some effort. If you trust your mechanic, do as she or he said.
I bought my Dino 15 years ago with smoke on one exhaust line. It comes from one cylinder that burns some oil (maybe due to a broken ring). Some said, I need to rebuild the engine. Some said, drive on. If problems occur you'll need to rebuild your engine any way. I followed the latter and have still fun driving with smoke and frequent spark plug changes on this cylinder. It got a bit better after replacing the valve guide gaskets.
