2.0 Coupe Inner Arches

Hi Comrades,
my '67 Coupe has been repainted [final stages]. All the lower part of the car has been welded with good new metal, so it has had new inner and outer sills.
Now when I look into the front wheel arches, you can see right though a gap where the panels don't meet [pink circle]. My drainage holes in the outer sills are good and clear but I am worried that water/salt/grit will easily get in through this gap and lead to corrosion in the future. Should this gap be sealed? I would always leave a small gap to let water drain out this end.
Higher up the gap is very small against the wing [green line], so not a problem, I hope.
Did the cars ever have wheel arch liners? Do I close these gaps now whilst everything is clean and dry, knowing that the drains will keep the enclosed area vented?
I will Waxoyl inside the sills of course.
regards to all,
Graham
