Original 2.0 valves

Post by Gaelicguy »

Bom dia a todos,
I’ve just finished stripping the head in my 2.0, it’s what might be considered series 2 as its chassis 665.
The very last valve I removed was different to all the others, it didn’t have a dished head.
It got me thinking, so I looked closely at them all.
I found 4 different valves, the flat top being one of them. The others differed in that 2 had no identification on the stem head, the others had two different numbers or symbols.
All not in itself critical.
But how do I know if any are the original sodium filled valves? Only the flat top one is slightly magnetic, the others are clearly SS.

I have never seen any kind of documentation saying the 1987cc Dino engines had sodium-filled
exhaust valves from factory.
All the 2418 cc Dinos had these, causing their owners a lot of dropped valve disasters...

Different experts often claims the sodium-filled exhaust valves get brittle over the years,
especially in engines not driven regulary. Personally, I would avoid these valves.
