Door check strap

Post by 4cambob »

Following an unsuccessful search on here for replacement door check straps for the coupe, I have found some new ones which may fit our cars.

Did Bertone not make the bodies for the Montreal and our coupes.

Hi,
I have once tried Alfa ones. They fit Or can be made fit with a bit grinding but are a bit too short - what means the door cannot be opened completely... so not useable from my experience.

The alfa gtv strap is 95mm and too short. The Montreal strap is the same size as the dino at about 103mm.Johnny the metal part you show is only the internal part of the strap so can't be used as is.

After reading the post on door check straps I decided to look to see what comprised the "check strap assembly" only to discover mine are completely missing. Neither side is there. I see threaded holes where they should be. Does anyone have the bits that are not available at Dinoparts that they would like to sell? Ben. bhiggins2@aol.com.

It should be possible to find those aluminium fittings from one of the many wrecked coupes. Maybe Alfredo joins in and can offer them. I've adopted Georg's solution. It works pretty good.

I have developed a new door strap that holds the door in every position. You need to send me the four fittings in the door and the A-pillar and in return you will receive two ready to build in sets of straps.
Using and refurbishing the old straps will not lead to a satisfactory result

Many aluminium fittings have been modified with thread and screws as seen on Georg's images. I was lucky that mine have been untouched. I've used pins and only had to convert Georg's rollers a little bit to make his solution fit again. You can see it in the German thread I've linked.

I would be interested in the check straps if still available Georg?
