Steering wheel removal

Post by sveckan »

Hi all,

Today I tried to remove the steering wheel on my 2400 coupe, but without success. I unlocked the nut and then tried to pull it off using a three armed wheel puller. But it won't move even the slightest and I'm afraid of damaging the steering wheel if I use to much force.

Are there any secrets involved or is it just verk stuck? I've sprayed it with penetrating oil and will leave it overnight. Could I try to heat the center with a heat gun or would that do more damage than good?

Any advice is most welcome!

Kind regards,
Anders Svensson

Hi Anders
Just a few days ago I have experienced the same.
I finally I took a hammer of about 200g and hit on the top / head of the thread axle of the wheel puller. After some 10 shocks the steering wheel freed and came of.

Hej Anders,

normally the 3-armed puller does the job. You might try Georg's suggestion or try to gently(!!!) and intermittently pull one side of the wheel towards you while pressing the opposite side towards the dashboard.

Best of luck,
Robert
